Palette of Homes Tour 2008…
Just a short while ago we had the pleasure of working with American Tradition Builders, Inc. (www.atb-az.com) along with the very creative talents at Nelson and Barnum Interiors (www.nelsonbarnum.com) on a residence in Paradise Valley, AZ. The home was created under the design of architect Ken Brown and took 3 years to finish. Last week it was displayed on the Palette of Homes Tour 2008 benefiting Free Arts of Arizona
Contessa’s job was to fabricate the visions and designs that Teresa Nelson drew up for us. What transpired was a truly unbelievable home that one must see to believe! The home is aptly named Cielo Azul - Spanish for Blue Sky. Most of our stone was done in Pinon with one fireplace done in a golden/creme limestone. Enjoy a few pictures of the home and our efforts on the cantera and
limestone!

This client had a specific plan in mind! They wanted a very modern and clean look with minimal deposits in the cantera stone. They were going to perform the work themselves since they were personally remodeling the entire home. They chose a stone named blanco tinajeras.
The stone was cut into 6″ x 12″ blocks with a pillow cut fashion making it taller in the center and thinner on the ends. It was installed in a brick pattern and is fairly self supporting as it was installed. The look is quite unique and has a very modern flair to it. And who said you can’t use cantera in a modern application?!?!?
Using different textures of material - the wooden hearth - the marbel hearth and the semi rough stone create a unique feel in the home.

This client had experienced water damage and had to replace the carpeting and most of the sheet rock 2 feet up from the carpet in the master bed room as well as the bath room. They decided that they would, at the same time, do away with their older travertine that was placed as a surround on the master bed room firebox as well as add a decorative surround in the master tub area. Currently there was nothing there.
We used a Limestone that is called Rivera Beige that is quarried out of central Mexico. It was designed to pick up some of the intricate wood designs in their bed room furniture including the spiral wood cuts. These were used for the corbels in the master fireplace and the keystone design on the tub fireplace was from the dresser. The general contractor repaired the walls well enough so that we could attach the stone after he removed the travertine tiles. The gas key was relocated and the built in niches were closed over with more sheet rock giving us more lateral clearances for the large fireplace.
